Rafting Tara River Canyon in Montenegro - meanderbug

Rafting the Tara River: A journey so gnarly that members of the team went twice. Depending on the time of year, rafting the Tara can range from stage 4-5 rapids to a more gentle 3. May to June after the snow melts make the Tara a fantastic place to be. While July and August see the adrenaline lessen but the enjoyment remains.

Mountain biking on Durmitor - meanderbug

Mountain biking on Durmitor: There are few better ways to explore the mountainside of Durmitor in Žabljak, Montenegro than with a mountain bike. Biking in the Dinaric Alps is quickly becoming a favorite activity for locals and travelers coming through this tiny, yet dynamic country.

Blue Cave on the coastline of Montenegro - meanderbug

Kayaking the Blue Cave: Easily one of the most well known coastal adventures in Montenegro. Montenegro+ provides an excellent tour to the cave. It is sure to to satisfy proving to be a day well spent.

Skadar Lake-Montenegro-Meanderbug

Lake Skadar Kayaking: Lake Skadar is one of the most unknown treasures of the Balkans. On this day, we had the whole lake to ourselves. The lake stretches into Albania allowing the traveler to float in tranquility between two countries.

Waterfall Prokletije Montenegro

National Park Prokletije:  With the robust size of the park and the geographic isolation of the area, the true back country adventurer will be overwhelmed with the opportunity to explore.  Arguably, the most notable hike in the park and area is the “Tour of the Balkans Trail” which traverses through sections of the park.

Mavrovo Lake

National Park Mavrovo: A gem within Macedonia, Mavrovo provides a year round spot for the adventure seeker. Hiking and climbing from spring to fall, and skiing in the winter. It is just one reason that Macedonia is quickly climbing the travel charts for the upcoming years.

These six Balkan adventures are ones that we continue to talk about over time. This region is ripe with opportunities to explore. Check out Pokljuka in Bled, Slovenia, Mount Olympus, Plitvice Lakes or take a look here for other adventuring opportunities.
