Review: DoubleTree by Hilton Zagreb

On my family’s getaway to the Croatian capital of Zagreb for the annual Christmas Fair, we had an excellent opportunity to stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Zagreb. Reaching Zagreb was a bit of a chore as a tire mishap impeded our progress and set us back a few hours. However, this blowout gave me the first direct interaction with the professionals that make up the staff at the DoubleTree.

After notifying the front desk of the late arrival, they were more than accommodating making sure that we were taken care of even after reaching our destination. Upon check-in, we were met with the usual, yet always welcomed warm cookies. Warm cookies are always a good thing, coupled with a quick check-in to get my family to bed and an early morning “tweet” the next day demonstrated the care, service and professionalism that we were about to experience. Walking into our room late and ready to unload, we noticed all of the beds prepared: king bed turned down, folding cot for our three-year-old made up and the baby’s crib in place with a warm blanket.

The DoubleTree is located within the business district of Zagreb. Set slightly outside of the bustling downtown area, a quiet and restful locale. However, it is not too far removed from the Center making the city accessible in every sense. By tram, one can be downtown in 10-15 minutes. By car, it is about 5-10 minutes depending on traffic. Walking is even a possibility with a 30 minute stroll bringing you to the center of Zagreb. Note: Taxis are relatively inexpensive, especially for getting into the center of town. The taxi drivers that I used were excellent for providing commentary about the city and directions around town.

While searching for places to eat in Zagreb, the hotel restaurant came up consistently. The OXBO seems to be a favorite of travelers when staying in this part of Zagreb. Unfortunately, our days were spent out so much that eating times always fell while exploring other parts of the city. However, it was easy to see that food service at the DoubleTree was top notch. Breakfast consisted of a full service buffet that included a variety of breads, cereals, hot entrees and fresh fruits. Along with the coffee, teas and juices, nothing went unnoticed to get the day started properly. Even before arriving Zagreb, the OXBO was at the top of lists for restaurants to enjoy. Rest assured that our next trip will include pulling up to the tables here for a taste of what others are promoting.

Our experience at the Doubletree by Hilton in Zagreb was restful and carefree. It would be an easy decision to return for a stay while visiting the beautiful city such as Zagreb. I look forward to returning to the city and to the hotel for no other reason, but to experience the restaurant and enjoy the amazing quality of service. The atmosphere was professional, yet relaxed, even with a rambunctious three year old.
