Story: Like so many authors looking for a quiet, inspirational place to write, one prolific Macedonian writer, Živko Čingo (Zhivko Chingo) found that spot. Tucked into the side of a hill in the Sv. Petka Monastery is a terrace where he would regularly go to look out over Lake Ohrid while composing his latest work. Inspired by the area, Čingo included his birthplace, Ohrid, in a number of his works.
Recommendations: You can’t go wrong following Čingo here for reflection and inspiration between the nature and Orthodox iconography. It’s also a great place to hang with friends or woo your special someone. Sv. Petka is easily fit into a day schedule at the beginning or end of a hike in the Galičica National Park. But the budget-conscious free spirit can stay at the monastery for 5 euros per person a night. The small, humble rooms match expectations of a monastic lifestyle as do the large gathering rooms. This is a great place to finish a day with friends around a big round table playing cards or telling stories into the early hours of the morning.
Notes: The bathrooms and kitchenette area are all shared. Be sure to take food with you, as there is not any available for purchase at the monastery. You need to know someone to make a reservation for you. We rely on our friends at GEMA Travel to help with this and our outdoor excursion needs.
