The breathtaking landscape of Montenegro is not just there to sit and look pretty. The rocky terrain, soaring mountains, plunging gorges, rushing rivers, and rich national parks provide an unforgettable tapestry that sets the stage for every imaginable adventure.

Some of Montenegro’s most iconic adventurers include:

  • Hiking – hikes vary in difficulty from easy to intermediate to advanced. Several hikes are family-friendly. Hiking in Montenegro goes year round, and hikes can vary from shorter multi-hour hikes to longer multi-day hikes. Some of the best places to hike are in the 5 national parks of Montenegro.
  • Mountain biking – MTB roads and trails occupy a good portion of national parks and other areas. Best biking season is from March-October, with slightly shorter seasons in the north. Trails range from intermediate to highly advanced. Bike trips can last several hours or can be organized to take place over several days.
  • Zipline – the largest zipline in Montenegro crosses the Tara Canyon, and adventurers will have the thrill of seeing the plunging gorge of the canyon open up before them as they zip past. Zipline season runs from April-October.
  • Fly-fishing – Montenegro possesses several ideal locales for fly-fishing, complete with crystalline waters and prize catches such as arctic char and huchen. Most fly-fishing is catch and release, and does require a permit. One of the most iconic fly fishing spots is the Lim river, which was on of the spots that hosted the European Fly-Fishing Championships in 2019. Other small streams and rivers in the region of Plužine also make great fly-fishing spots. Fly-fishing season duration varies by location, but often last from May-September.
  • Hut-to-Hut hiking – in the land of katuns, hikers and trail-blazers can experience an unforgettable adventure by embarking on a hut-to-hut hike. This kind of hike takes several days. Hikers hike during the day, and then at night, rest at katuns along the trail. Biogradska Gora has several katuns perfect for hut-to-hut hiking.
  • Rafting – the frigid waters of the Tara River make up the perfect setting for adrenaline-rush inducing rafting. Rafters can raft up to 11 km. The rafting season lasts from May to August. River flow is more intense in May and June, so it may not be as accommodating to family rafting adventures.
  • Canyoning – Montenegro’s rocky terrain make canyons and gorges inevitable, and all of them are absolutely stunning. Canyoners can descend into Prskvica, Medjurecki Potok, and Rikavac. Canyoning season is typically from May-October.
  • National Parks – These breathtaking nature reserves often have adventure in abundance. All of these parks set the stage for breathtaking hikes at a wide variety of levels and lengths.
