Hut to hut hiking truly offers some of the best of Montenegro across the board. Hikers can spend all day taking in breathtaking views and exploring rich forests, crystalline glacial lakes, and rocky mountainscapes. Then, at the end of a long day, they can rest at one of Montenegro's signature katuns, or mountain huts historically used by shepherds when they brought their sheep to the mountains to graze in the summer months. Hosts of katuns will prepare a wonderful meal to restore hikers' strength and stamina, or hikers can take food with them to prepare themselves.

Several hut to hut hiking trails are located in Biogradska Gora National Park. Hikers can choose to start at any of the available katuns and make their way to the next katun along the trail. If hikers choose to complete the full hut to hut hiking trail around Biogradska Gora, they can plan to spend about four days hiking and four nights spent sleeping in comfortable huts miles away from any city noise or light pollution. Accessibility for hut to hut hiking trails kicks off in June and continues through October.
