Family Cabins on Mount Bjelasica – Montenegro

A Quiet Stay in Picturesque Jelovica

Jelovica is a magical little spot of nature in northern Montenegro. Her green valleys rise up from the Jelovica River all the way to transform into gentle mountain peaks. Nestled here on the green slopes are twin family cabins on Mount Bjelasica. A brother and sister, Gojko and Gorica, open their neighboring family cabins for travelers. This is a spot to bring loved ones for a nature adventure that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

This area provides access to Kolasin and her ski centers as well as to the backside of Biogradska Gora National Park. But Jelovica is her own little nature center as well. With the natural spring up behind the cabins running down to the river at the bottom of the valley, there are plenty of strolls to be taken in the area. With so much water around, it is only natural for this to be an area for foragers looking for a number of items including wild mushrooms. For hikers looking to adventure a little further away, pristine glacial Lake Pesic lies up the mountain just a few hours hike away.

A range of food options is available for guests at either or both of the cabins. Gojko and his wife, Milica, are ready to use their organic produce grown in nearby Lubnice Village to prepare local dishes and beverages for their guests. The fare here will often include mushrooms and other foraged items. And, we suggest you plan to try a piece or three of one of Milica’s cakes.

This is an ideal location for a multi-day stay for off-road, hiking, MTB, foragers, and even for those that may want a bit of casual fishing down in the waters of the Jelovica River. There are small lake trout in this area and, as of the time of writing, no fishing license is required in Jelovica.

  1. Some of the best food on the trip

I had a wonderful stay at Gojko’s cabin. Peaceful location, off the beaten track in Biogradska park. The family gave us such a warm welcome and some of the best food we had on the trip. The cabin was super cosy (I could watch the stars from by bed and be woken up by the farm animals) and convenient (you could start your walk right on your doorstep). I would highly recommend this place.

  2. Great host and perfect cabin for your Montenegro adventure!

Gojko’s cabin was definitely a highlight on my trip in Montenegro. After a long drive, we were warmly welcomed by Gojko, Milica and their family and presented with an amazing Montenegro dinner. For sure one of the best meals I have had during my holiday, Milica is an amazing cook. The dinner was only outdone by the delicious breakfast we were served the next morning (the priganice was amazing!). Our cabin was homey and cosy, we could relax in the cute gazebo and look out on the farm animals and mountains around us. Mount Bjelasica’s famous lake was hiking distance from our cabin: a perfect base from which to explore.
Great host and perfect cabin for your Montenegro adventure!

  3. Most special & memorable stay in Montenegro!

We had a 17 day visit in beautiful Montenegro. Our main goal was hiking, and that is what we did day by day. We loved the nature, scenery, hiking trails, food and appreciated the hospitality from our Montenegrin hosts. One stay was the most special and memorable of all: our 3 days with Milica and Gojko and family. We booked a farm stay, but did not expect to receive so much! Plenty of dishes with breakfast, huge portions for lunch, and a dinner for two that looked like a buffet for many. We could enjoy all kinds of genuine Montenegrin recipes and they were all delicious. Not to mention the rakia, beers, wine, juices ….
We received all the advice we needed for our hiking. Language was not a problem at all: when Urosh was not around for translation help, we talked with hands and feet, and that went well. In the same way we had some pleasant chats with our neighbours.
One thing was really difficult: to say goodbye and leave the people from whom we received so much! We all were deeply moved when heading to our next stop, and we will never forget our stay in Jelovica. A five star all in cabin and wonderful hosts!

  4. Everything was perfect!

We stopped here on the last day of your H2H hike in August and continued our trip in Montenegro with a rented car.
It was one of most amazing foods of our trip in Montenegro (together with Senica Katun). Far better than all the restaurants afterwards. Milica didn’t stopped cooking during our stay and we had plenty of different delicious dishes.
We slept in great typical cabin.
The hosts were exceptionally friendly. We played football with their nephew.
They made us feel like guests in their family, not like customers. One night was not enough. We would definitely love to come back and we recommend this place.
    Thank you for everything!

  5. Best Food in Montenegro

This is one of the nicest places we have stayed in a long time and definitely the best food we had in Montenegro. What makes the experience so special is the amazing food and hospitality provided by Gojko and his family. The cabins are spotlessly clean and very well kept. Gojko can show you the village and there is a walk to a lake that is not too difficult and makes for a good day out. We loved staying here and thank you for being so welcoming.
